FAQ

What are the health benefits of massage?

The benefits of a massage are amazing! Study after study has shown that a regular massage:

  • Relaxes muscles and improves mobility in the joints
  • Improves blood/lymph circulation which enhances the immune system
  • Relieves muscle aches and stiffness
  • Helps reduce stress and anxiety by encouraging relaxation
  • Reduces the heart rate and in turn lowers blood pressure

These are just some of the physical benefits. The emotional well-being one can receive from a caring and nurturing therapist is priceless. We all have a need to feel accepted as we are, to feel as though we matter. As a massage therapist, I am honored and humbled to be of service to another person’s peace of mind. You do matter to me.

I’ve never had a massage, what should I expect?

On your first visit, I will have you fill out a simple one-page health form with basic health-related questions. Then we will discuss any particular problem areas you want addressed during the session. The massage room itself is warm, quiet and low-lit with soft music for your relaxation. I will instruct you how to lie on the table under the sheet provided. I will tell you what I plan on doing first and then I will leave the room for you to undress. Some people undress completely while others leave their underwear on. It’s your choice. Occasionally during the massage, I will ask you how the pressure of the massage is feeling. Otherwise, I do not talk during your session. This is your time to escape and relax. Conversing during a massage takes that away. We can talk afterwards if you wish. Your privacy is utmost respected and only the part I am massaging is ever out of the sheet. Otherwise, you are covered with a sheet and a soft, fleece blanket for your comfort. When the session is over, I will tell you quietly and leave you to get dressed.
